LOCATION: RAINBOW PUSH COALITION HEADQUARTERS
DESCRIPTION: Defend and Expand Human and Civil Rights
Today, some argue that we are “beyond race” and no longer “need” a civil rights movement. As the National Urban League’s report, State of Black America demonstrates, objective, measurable structural inequalities persist in education, health care, criminal justice, employment and business - nearly every facet of political, economic and cultural life. With the historic election of President Obama, the nation has an historic opportunity to complete the “unfinished business” of achieving “Equanocmics”, i.e. shared economic and social justice in our lifetime.
This Civil Rights Call to Action will be televised internationally, and will examine the objective status of the civil rights struggle; and put forth a Call to Action Agenda identifying “what do we want, and how to fight for and win” civil and human rights in the era ahead.
