Clayton
County Issue
Rainbow PUSH has
been working
quietly on the
Clayton county
issue for weeks
– mostly in
helping to get
the Clayton
County Board
members to work
more effectively
with each other.
We met with SACS
two weeks ago
and clarified
important issues
and relayed that
information back
to the board
through their
attorney, Mr.
Hopson.
Actually, SACS
has not
recommended that
the entire board
step down. And
based on my
experience in
these matters,
it would be
better if those
who caused the
problems were to
resign or be
replaced in an
election.
The loss of
continuity would
not be good for
the Board, or
the school
district. I
urge you and
others who are
concerned to
attend the
meetings.
Observe the
demeanor of the
board members;
listen to their
comments. Do
you think your
board member is
doing a good job
or a poor job?
Vote according
to your
convictions.
Urge Board
members to
address the 9
SACS
recommendations
promptly and
thoroughly.
SACS has already
indicated a
willingness to
give Clayton
probationary
accredited
status IF the
board is making
substantial
progress toward
achieving the
nine
recommendations.
Also, they
should drop the
idea of a
“corrective
superintendent”
and focus on
hiring a
permanent
superintendent.
This is also
SACS’ view.
Thanks for
writing,
Janice Mathis
